ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - Utility crews in the Northeast were again pushing through fallen trees and windblown debris Sunday to reach downed power lines as they worked to restore electricity to more than a half-million homes and businesses after strong winds and heavy rain wreaked havoc in parts of the region.
Police in Suffolk County, N.Y., say a woman was killed when a tree fell on her Saturday night in Bay Shore, and a tree fell on a car in Westport, Conn., killing one person and injured three others.
A falling tree may also have been responsible for the deaths of two people in the New York City suburb of Teaneck.
The storm battered parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut Saturday with gusts of up to 70 miles per hour.
It struck about two weeks after heavy snow and hurricane-force winds left more than a million customers in the dark.
More than 500 passengers on a New Jersey Transit train were stranded for six to seven hours because of power supply problems.
Amtrak service between Philadelphia and New York was suspended for hours and airline flights were delayed or diverted.
In Uniondale, N.Y., the Nassau Coliseum lost three pieces of its aluminum facade about 90 minutes before the start of an NHL game.
In Atlantic City, N.J., the arm of a boom crane plunged 47 floors at a construction site.
A police officer was slightly injured.
