FREDERICK, Md. (June 21, 2012)--Army officials say they hope to reduce Fort Detrick's reliance on the electrical grid by installing solar panels on an undeveloped part of the installation in Frederick, Md.
Detrick will install 15 megawatts of renewable power over the next 18 months.
The electricity will come from solar panels on 65 to 75 acres in a section called Area B.
Fort Bliss in El Paso and Fort Irwin, Calif., will each install a 20-megawatt project, officials said.
Schofield Barracks in Hawaii will get a 50-megawatt biofuel project, officials said.
