SOFIA, Bulgaria (December 14, 20120--A 56-year-old homeless man has died of exposure to the cold in Bulgaria, bringing to three the total cold-related deaths this season, an official said Friday.

Emergency official Anelia Georgieva said the man was found unresponsive on Friday morning on a street in the southwestern town of Dupnitsa.

The bodies of a 70-year-old woman and a 59-year-old man were recovered Thursday from snowdrifts in northern Bulgaria.

A sudden cold snap with temperatures plunging to minus 8 degrees Fahrenheit and heavy snow have gripped large parts of Bulgaria.

In the past week, blizzards have blocked roads, stranded villages, and disrupted power supplies across the Balkan states, though by Friday temperatures were rising in some areas.
