LUBBOCK (February 13, 2012)--Some schools in West Texas delayed opening Monday morning because of winter weather that left behind nearly 3 inches of snow.
Texas Tech University in Lubbock canceled morning classes Monday and ordered the regular schedule to resume at noon amid freezing temperatures and misty conditions.
Schools in San Angelo started two hours late because of icy roads.
The National Weather Service in Lubbock said the area received 2.8 inches of snow Sunday.
Forecaster Andrew Pritchett said Amarillo received 1.7 inches of snow.
Pritchett said the wintry conditions were moving out of West Texas and the Panhandle on Monday.
Forecasters said the Dallas-Fort Worth area faced a chance of snow and light sleet Monday, but roadways were clear and no flight delays were reported at DFW International Airport.
Rain was falling on most of Central Texas Monday morning.
Police were responding to a series of mostly minor weather-related accidents on city streets and on Interstate 35.
Parts of Central Texas saw the first snow of the season Sunday afternoon.
The National Weather Service in Fort Worth issued a winter weather advisory Sunday effective until 9 a.m. that included Hamilton and Mills Counties in Central Texas.
