Drought, Wind, Temperatures Heighten Risk Of Wildfires In Parts Of Texas

(December 18, 2012)—Dry conditions, warmer-than-usual temperatures and gusty southwest winds increased the wildfire threat in parts of Texas Tuesday and the threat will grow over the next several days, forecasters say.

A critical fire threat is expected Wednesday west of a line from Jacksboro to Mineral Wells to Eastland as strong northwest winds build over much of North Texas behind a cold front.

Fire conditions are expected to remain elevated for much of North Texas Thursday and Friday, as well.

The fire danger is also high in West Texas and in the extreme southeastern Texas Panhandle.
