Families Left Homeless By Superstorm Still Live In Hotels

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (January 25, 2013)--Months after Superstorm Sandy, at least 3,500 families are still living in hotels in New York and New Jersey and the Federal Emergency Management Agency is still picking up the tab.

The FEMA assistance expires every two weeks, however, which leaves the families in a state of anxiety over where they will sleep at night.

The next deadline is Saturday and many families are still waiting to hear whether they will be allowed to stay.

Claims are evaluated on an individual basis.

FEMA officials said people are no longer eligible for hotel assistance if they have received rental assistance, have a housing option or an insurance settlement or can return to a repaired home.
