COLLEGE STATION (May 10, 2013)—Runoff from heavy rain flooded a portion of the College Station City Hall after a clogged drain allowed water to accumulate in an outdoor atrium and then pour into hallways and offices, including those of the city manager and mayor.
Staff members responded by sweeping the water out with brooms and putting desks on bricks late Thursday afternoon.
The water rose to about 18 inches in the atrium.
Mayor Nancy Berry said the council was meeting in executive session when water started seeping under the door.
"We went out and looked and the water was all over,” she said.
City spokesman Jay Socol says an emergency restoration firm has started cleanup work, which is expected to continue throughout the weekend.
