High Winds Force Candidate’s Blimp To Make Emergency Landing

DAVIE, Fla. (October 22, 2012)--High winds forced the crew of a blimp-like aircraft that was carrying an advertisement for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney to make an emergency landing in South Florida.

Davie police say the two people aboard the aircraft got out safely when the blimp landed in a neighborhood at around 7:10 p.m. Sunday.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel reported that the blimp was en route to North Perry Airport in nearby Pembroke Pines, flying from Boca Raton, where Monday night's presidential debate between Romney and President Barack Obama will be held at Lynn University.

Police Capt. Dale Engle said the deflated aircraft carried an advertisement that read, "America needs Romney."

No one on the ground was injured.
