OCEAN CITY, Md. (October 29, 2012)--Hurricane Sandy did significant damage to a large fishing pier in the Maryland beach resort of Ocean City, officials confirmed Monday.
Gov. Martin O'Malley says the fishing pier is now "half-gone."
The pier extends from the southern end of the Boardwalk in an area that's been under a mandatory evacuation order and has several small buildings on it, the last of which is a bait and tackle shop.
After that point, about 100 to 150 feet of the pier is gone.
The area at the boardwalk end of the pier has some debris but remains intact.
