Ingrid Moves Through Mexico; No Major Problems Expected In Texas

BROWNSVILLE (September 16, 2013)--Schools in Brownsville were closed Monday and shrimping boats were taking cover on the Texas border as Tropical Storm Ingrid moved through Mexico.

Ingrid weakened from a hurricane after making landfall Monday near La Pesca, about 200 miles south of Brownsville, which had already received an inch of rain by sunrise.

National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Miller says Ingird isn't expected to cause major problems in the area.

He says there could be some localized flooding around Brownsville and about another inch of rain Monday.

City officials had passed out sandbags this weekend as a precaution.

Also this weekend, the U.S. Coast Guard and Border Patrol escorted nearly 200 vessels in the Gulf of Mexico to safety in anticipation of large swells and high tides.
