Rusty Garrett here with the weekend outlook: An isolated shower or thunderstorm remains possible in the hot and humid air this Saturday, the 4th. Same for Sunday...although NOT a wash-out either day!
TEMPLE (January 14, 2013)—Temple’s Office of Emergency Management has opened three emergency warming centers for the homeless and residents in distress through Thursday morning because of the winter weather that moved into Central Texas.
A center for men is open at Victory Ministries at 305 South 18th St.; a center for men, women and children is open at Humble House at 613 South 7th St., and a second shelter for men is open at Transformation Station at 503 East Central Ave.
The centers will be open from 5 p.m. until 9 a.m. through Thursday morning.
Additional facilities could be mobilized if demand exceeds capacity, the city said.
“The intent of providing warming centers in Temple is to bring people that would normally be out in the elements on an extremely cold evening indoors during the coldest hours of the night. Guests will be provided a warm area for refuge, water, blankets, toilet facilities, and limited hygiene items,” Temple Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator Lonzo Wallace said.
Information on warming centers is available by calling 211.
