Local Residents Left Waiting For Storm Debris Cleanup

WACO (September 23, 2013 )—It wasn’t the scene Alice Carter expected when she looked out of her back window after last week’s storms rolled through Central Texas.

Broken branches and downed tree limbs covered most of her yard, reminders of the storm that dumped as much as 5 inches of rain in some areas late last week.

Carter lives on Carver Street in East Waco with her sister.

She says on the night of the storm, utility workers trimmed the trees around the power lines to restore electricity, but left the mess behind.

Neighboring properties were also left in disarray.

Carter says senior citizens live in those homes and they don't feel they should be held responsible for clearing the mess.

Oncor said Monday morning that tree-trimming crews will clean up the debris, and work on that got underway later in the day.

The company says they it is responsible for the cleanup if it trims trees to restore power or to prevent a safety problem.

Oncor said it could take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to clear all of the debris sites in the city and asked the residents to be patient.

Anyone who has debris left in a yard for an extended period of time should call Oncor’s toll free number, 888-313-6862.
