LOS ANGELES (January 1, 2013)--Rescuers were able to save a man and his two dogs from having to spend a freezing night on the snowy summit of Mount Baden-Powell in the Los Angeles area.
The rescue Sunday in the Angeles National Forest came after the man and his dogs slid off a trail and down a 30-foot ice chute.
Swirling snow and bone-chilling wind kept helicopters from flying low enough to be used in the rescue, but a search and rescue team went in on foot and got the hiker and the dogs out safely.
