New England Braces For Coastal Flooding

BOSTON (March 7, 2013)--A late winter storm swept into New England Thursday, dumping a mix of snow and rain that left some coastline communities bracing for heavy street flooding and evacuations.

The storm buried parts of the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions with snow, and then moved into New England on Thursday with high winds, snow and rain.

Emergency management officials were worried about getting through two more high tides before the storm was expected to end Friday.

In the seacoast town of Scituate, Mass., about 30 miles south of Boston, about a dozen streets were closed after Thursday morning's high tide sent 2 to 2 1/2 feet of water washing into some areas.

Police Chief Brian Stewart says shoreline residents were "strongly advised" to leave before the next high tide, scheduled for about 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
