New Tropical Storm Forms In The Atlantic

MIAMI (September 9, 2013)--Tropical Storm Humberto formed Monday in the Atlantic, south of the Cape Verde Islands and could eventually become a hurricane, forecasters said.

The storm's maximum sustained winds early Monday were near 40 miles per hour, but the National Hurricane Center says Humberto is expected to strengthen and could become a hurricane on Wednesday.

A tropical storm warning was in effect for the southern Cape Verde Islands of Maio, Santiago, Fogo and Brava.

The storm was centered about 145 miles southeast of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands and was moving west at near 12 miles per hour.
