New York Takes Full Brunt Of Superstorm

NEW YORK (October 30, 2012)--New Yorkers today were getting a look at the full impact of the superstorm that was Hurricane Sandy Tuesday.

The city's transit system suffered unprecedented damage, as subway tunnels were flooded and tracks were left covered with sludge.

A transit spokeswoman says there's no way of knowing how long it will take to get the system running again.

In one Brooklyn neighborhood, cars were strewn about like leaves.

The manager of a Manhattan high-rise has been sending porters with flashlights up and down 47 flights of stairs to check on residents left without power.

A huge fire destroyed between 80 and 100 houses in a flooded neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens.

More than 190 firefighters have contained the six-alarm blaze fire in the Breezy Point section, but they are still putting out some pockets of fire.
