PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. (April 24, 2013)—Residents of the Midwest living along the flooded Mississippi and Illinois Rivers were praying for an end to unrelenting rains Wednesday.
Officials in Peoria, Ill. say the Illinois River has crested, but roads and buildings were flooded and riverfront buildings were inundated.
Residents of Dutchtown, Mo., were hoping their sandbagging efforts will continue to hold back the Mississippi.
Forecasters expect high water to continue into next month.
The National Weather Service expects many of the waterways to remain high into next month, straining levees holding back the rivers.
