MIAMI (October 7, 2012)--Tropical Storm Olivia continued to strengthen Sunday over open waters in the eastern Pacific, but poses no threat to land, forecasters said.

Olivia was about 930 miles southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula with maximum sustained winds of 60 miles per hour and was moving west-northwest at 8 miles per hour, the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said early Sunday.

Olivia is expected to make a northwest turn later Sunday.

Forecasters say it could become a hurricane sometime during the next day or two.

The eastern Pacific hurricane season ends Nov. 30.
