Rusty Garrett here with the weekend outlook: Saturday will be the milder of the two days. Sun and clouds will be the rule with early weekend highs in the mid 80s. Back to the low to mid 90s on Sunday!
ST. LOUIS (January 15, 2013)--The weather-related deaths of an Air Force veteran and his two young sons during a hike in Missouri underscore the need for simple precautions that could avert similar tragedies, experts say.
Authorities say David Decareaux, who was an experienced hiker, and two of his sons, ages 10 and 8, of Millstadt, Ill., weren't prepared for the elements when they set out Saturday on the Mark Twain National Forest's Ozark Trail in light clothing.
Temperatures plunged through the day and overnight, before their bodies were found Sunday morning on the trail.
Officials and experts say hikers should never take weather for granted and should dress in layers, taking more food and other supplies than they actually may need.
The Decareauxes will be buried Friday near St. Louis.
