Roller Coaster Submerged By Superstorm Sandy Will Be Removed

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. (November 27, 2012)--A roller coaster that was swept off a New Jersey amusement pier during Superstorm Sandy won't remain partially submerged in the ocean as a tourist attraction.

Seaside Heights, N.J., Mayor Bill Akers told the Asbury Park the town and the owners of the Casino Pier are in talks to remove what remains of the Jet Star Roller Coaster.

The mayor told a TV station last week that the coaster would make a "great tourist attraction," but now says that "was not the brightest comment."

Casino Pier officials say they are still assessing the damage.

The mayor says construction of a new boardwalk should begin in January and be ready by Memorial Day.
