Second Storm Bears Down On Central Plains

DODGE CITY, Kan. (February 24, 2013)--Less than a week after a record-breaking winter storm hit the central Plains, another storm was bearing down on the region Sunday, sending public works crews scrambling for salt and sand supplies.

The National Weather Service issued a blizzard watch from Sunday evening through late Monday for much of Kansas because of the storm system that's tracking across western Texas into Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri.

The storm is expected to leave as much as 15 inches of snow in some sections from Texas to Kansas, where a heavy storm last week dumped about a foot of snow.

Wichita's public works department says sand and salt supplies are low there because of last week's storm and streets won't be treated with the limited sand and salt supplies until this round of snowing ends.
