DETROIT (January 31, 2013)—At least three people were killed and about more were 20 injured Thursday in a massive freeway crash in Detroit involving at least two-dozen vehicles in icy, snowy conditions.
Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw said the deaths and injuries resulted from a chain-reaction crash Thursday morning on a mile-long stretch of Interstate 75 on the southwest side of the city.
Shaw said the injured, including some children, were taken to hospitals.
Witnesses described whiteout conditions and slippery roads at the time of the pileup.
Shaw said many people had to be pulled out of vehicles.
