Storms Leave Thousands Without Power In The Houston Area

HOUSTON (April 3, 2013)--Thousands of people in the Houston area lost power during overnight storms.

About 4,600 homes and businesses were without electricity early
Wednesday, CenterPoint Energy reported.

Crews worked to restore power after outages that originally topped more than 17,000 customers.

Meanwhile in Hitchcock, seven patrol cars sustained hail damage, including broken windows, police Chief Clay Kennelly said.

About 10 windows were broken at the Hitchcock Volunteer Fire Department's station.

Similar property damage was reported in nearby Santa Fe where nine police cars were damaged by hail.

Tree limbs also went down during the storms.

Houston’s forecast includes lingering thunderstorms Wednesday and a chance of showers through early Thursday, the National Weather Service said.
