(October 9, 2012)—Powerful 20-foot plus waves injured at least four people Tuesday at Waimea Bay Tuesday as the first swell of the winter season arrived earlier than usual in Hawaii.
Authorities issued a high surf warning that was effective at noon.
A 23-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy were taken to the hospital and two others suffered shoulder injuries.
Officials said the surf was just a harbinger of what’s expected to be a challenging winter season.
