TEMPLE (December 11, 2012)—Temperatures are expected to drop into the 20s overnight and Temple’s Office of Emergency Management has activated two emergency warming centers for a second night to provide a temporary warming space to homeless people and distressed residents.
Victory Ministries at 305 South 18th St. will serve as a temporary shelter for men and Humble House at 613 South 7th St. for men, women and children.
The centers will be open from 5 p.m.Tuesday until 9 a.m. Wednesday.
"The intent of providing warming centers in Temple is to bring people that would normally be out in the elements on an extremely cold evening indoors during the coldest hours of the night. Guests will be provided a warm area for refuge, water, blankets, toilet facilities, and limited hygiene items,” Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator Lonzo Wallace said.
