TEMPLE (November 24, 2013) The City of Temple says it’s activating its Emergency Warming Center Plan to provide a place for homeless or distressed residents to get out of the wintry cold.
The warming center for men will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. from Sunday through Thursday at Victory Ministries at 305 South 18th Street.
Should the need arise a second center could be opened for women and children, the city said.
“The intent of providing warming centers in Temple is to bring people that would normally be out in the elements on an extremely cold evening indoors during the coldest hours of the night,” interim Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator Ron Snider said.
“Guests will be provided a warm area for refuge, water, blankets, toilet facilities, and limited hygiene items,” he said.
For information about the warming centers, call 211.
