SAN ANTONIO (September 3, 2013)—The San Antonio Water System says about 2,000 homeowners have enrolled in a program that offers vouchers for landscape changes that will reduce the amount of water used.
The system says a homeowner can qualify for a $100 voucher by removing at least 200 square feet of lawn.
Karen Guz, the system's director of conservation, estimates about 4,000 gallons of water can be saved every year by converting lawns to xeriscaping.
The system has been providing rebates for more than a decade, but has learned that people are more likely to convert their landscapes if they're offered financial incentives.
