AUSTIN (October 31, 2013) One person been died in the massive flooding triggered by heavy rains in the Austin area.
A man died after driving on a low-lying portion of road overtaken by flooding, the Caldwell County Sheriff's office said Thursday.
The man was swept out of his vehicle in Dale, south of Austin, and crews found his body nearby a short time later.
The victim wasn't immediately identified pending notification of his relatives.
The sheriff's office did not return calls seeking additional comment and details.
The downpours began Wednesday night and continued Halloween morning, causing widespread flooding in and around Austin and across other parts of Texas.
Officials used boats, rafts and even helicopters to make dozens of emergency rescues.
