Texas Task Force 1 Heads To Arkansas

COLLEGE STATION (April 28, 2014) The urban search and rescue team Texas Task Force 1 was activated Monday to assist authorities in Arkansas after a deadly tornado outbreak.

The 77-member team that headed to Arkansas includes technical and canine search components and heavy rescue personnel and equipment.

The team deployed quickly because members were in College Station for an annual training exercise.

Fourteen people died as tornadoes swept through the Little Rock area Sunday, but the death toll could rise as crews search the debris left behind by a tornado that left an 80-mile-long path of suburban destruction.

The tornado that slammed into Vilonia, Ark., was among a rash of tornadoes and strong storms that rumbled across the Midwest and South.

Forecasters warned of more tornadoes, winds and hail in parts of Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Louisiana.

Another twister killed a person in Quapaw, Okla., and another person died in Iowa after powerful winds swept through.
