Tropical Storm Forms In The Pacific

MIAMI (May 23, 2014) Tropical Storm Amanda formed Friday over the eastern Pacific Ocean, but the storm posed no threat to land and remained far offshore.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami says Amanda had maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour and was centered about 620 miles south-southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico, moving west-northwest at 5 miles per hour.

Additional strengthening is expected in the next couple of days, forecasters said.
