Tropical Storm Warning Issued For Jamaica

MIAMI (October 23, 2012)--A tropical storm warning was in effect Tuesday for Jamaica as Tropical Storm Sandy approaches.

The storm, which is expected to strengthen, had maximum sustained winds early Tuesday near 45 miles per hour.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Sandy is expected to be a hurricane as it nears Jamaica on Wednesday.

The storm was centered about 325 miles south-southwest of Kingston, Jamaica, and was moving north-northeast near 3 miles per hour.

Meanwhile, a tropical depression in the Atlantic is expected to become a tropical storm later in the day.

The depression's maximum sustained winds were near 35 miles per hour.

The depression was centered about 825 miles northeast of the Leeward Islands and was moving north-northeast near 12 miles per hour.
