AUSTIN (October 18, 2013)--The Austin City Council has voted to ban tubing along a popular section of the Colorado River, saying people could be overtaken by high waters released from a nearby dam.
The council banned tubing and swimming in the section of the river between Longhorn Dam and U.S. Highway 183 because of changing water levels from the releases.
The use of sturdier watercraft, such as kayaks, will still be allowed.
Austin’s parks department recently reported that there have been 18 water rescues since 2006 along this stretch of water.
