NEW BATAAN, Philippines (December 6, 2012)--The death toll from a powerful typhoon that lashed the southern Philippines has risen to about 350 as rescuers search through mud and debris for another 400 people missing, officials said Thursday.
The Office of Civil Defense reported Thursday that more bodies have been recovered from the hardest-hit provinces of Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental, as well as six other provinces.
At least 184 of the victims died in Compostela Valley when Typhoon Bopha struck Tuesday, including 78 villagers and soldiers who perished in a flash flood that swamped two emergency shelters and a military camp.
