SAPULPA, Okla. (February 6, 2012)--Authorities released details Monday of a weekend accident that killed Andrew Gabrielson, 24, a storm chaser featured on The Weather Channel and another man on a turnpike near Tulsa, Okla.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Monday that Gabrielson and Sapulpa, Okla., resident Gregory Gilcrease, 55, both suffered massive injuries in the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene on the Turner Turnpike.
Troopers believe Gilcrease's pickup truck was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of the turnpike at around 3:30 p.m. Saturday when it collided with Gabrielson's sport utility vehicle head-on.
Two other drivers were injured.
A statement on The Weather Channel's website says Gabrielson was headed home after chasing storms in Texas.
He was from Luverne, Minn.
Gabrielson was a frequent contributor to severe weather coverage on the network.
