Weather Likely A Factor In Series Of Pileups That Left Girl Dead

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (January 21, 2013)—Snow was likely a factor Monday in a series of highway pileups in southwest Ohio that left a 12-year-old girl dead.

A crash on Interstate 275 crash that involved as many as 85 vehicles was one of four pileups Monday in Ohio, where there were scattered snow showers with isolated pockets of heavier snowfall.

Forecasters had said that could reduce visibility and produce a quick coating of snow.

The girl died in the I-275 pileup outside Cincinnati and at least 20 were injured.

A State Highway Patrol dispatcher says as many as 50 vehicles were involved in a pileup on I-75, between Middletown and Monroe.

Minor injuries were reported.

The patrol says four semitrailers and about 20 cars were involved in an afternoon pileup on I-71 near Mansfield.

Lanes of I-270 reopened after a multi-vehicle crash near Columbus.
