Nadine Finally Dissipates Over The Atlantic

MIAMI (October 3, 2012)--The cyclone formerly known as Tropical Storm Nadine has dissipated after churning for more than 21 days, falling short of the all-time Atlantic Ocean longevity record.

National Hurricane Center Web Site

The National Hurricane Center issued its last bulletin for Nadine on Thursday morning and had a little fun with the storm in the final advisory, saying: "Bye Bye Nadine ... What a long strange trip it's been."

Nadine tied 1971's Ginger for second place on the list of longest-lasting cyclones of at least tropical storm strength.

The record is held by an unnamed storm, which hung around for nearly 28 days in 1899.

Nadine mostly spun harmlessly out at sea.

Its remnants had gale-force winds of about 45 miles per hour near the Azores island chain east of Portugal.

It never threatened the U.S.
