Search Continues For Missing Captain Of Sunken Sailing Ship

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (October 29, 2012)—The U.S. Coast Guard continued to search Monday for the captain of a replica of an 18th-century sailing vessel that went down off the North Carolina coast.

Robin Walbridge, 63, and crew member Claudene Christian were both missing after the ship sank, but Christian, 42, was later found and was taken to a hospital.

She was unresponsive, officials said.

All of the other crew members were rescued after the HMS Bounty began taking on water at around 5 a.m. Monday in the rough waters churned up by Hurricane Sandy.

The Coast Guard said Walbridge and Christian were able to put on survival suits designed to keep them afloat and protect them from chilly waters for 15 hours.

The Coast Guard was searching by air and water.
