MIAMI (October 3, 2012)--Tropical Storm Nadine, which formed more than 20 days ago, has become one of the five longest-lasting cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean.

National Hurricane Center Web Site

National Hurricane Center forecasters said Wednesday that Nadine is in fifth place on the all-time longevity list, as a depression, tropical storm or hurricane.

The storm has been far from the U.S. since it formed.

Forecasters predict Nadine will fall apart before challenging for the top spot, which is held by an unnamed storm from 1899, which hung around for nearly 28 days.

Nadine is expected to bring wind and rain to the Azores islands in the north Atlantic on Wednesday night or early Thursday.

Its maximum sustained winds Wednesday were 50 miles per hour.

Meanwhile, the 15th tropical depression of the season has formed far out in the Atlantic, forecasters said.
