WACO, Texas (KWTX) - It has been a rodeo season like no other.

Shutdowns and cancellations have been devastating to cowboys and venues alike.

The Coronavirus has cast a shadow of doubt in the minds of many rodeo fans, who may not feel safe attending in-person, or just don’t know which events are still on.

This makes the Ram Texas Circuit Rodeo Finals in Waco this weekend that much more special.

Rodeo announcer T.C. Long says, “For you to be able to come, and come out safe, social distancing, and get to enjoy something. People have been cooped up at home and they are ready to go do something.”

The Circuit Finals saw many of the best cowboys in the state going head-to-head for a chance at the title, while spaced-out, masked-up fans of all ages got to enjoy the show.

“It doesn’t matter if you are two or 92, we have something for you to enjoy. From the fan-favorite of Mutton Busting, to Bull Riding, Barrel Racing, Breakaway Roping – we have all the events of rodeo.”

The past 9 months have been brutal for the rodeo scene. The Extraco Center has still been hosting events, but, between restrictions and low attendance, they are losing money in the process.

Still, what they have pulled-off is better than canceling the rodeos altogether, like many other Texas towns have had to do.

“The Extraco Event Center has done a great job of being able to keep people safe under the guidelines, while also allowing them to get out and have a good time... that’s important.”

Extraco did completely shutdown for almost three months at the start of the pandemic, and the number of tickets sold, as well as the number of people traveling to Waco to catch a show, still haven’t recovered.

“People drive from a long way to come to these events, just to get to see rodeo. That’s something we kind of pride ourselves on.”

The venue also prides itself on fulfilling its mission, which is to provide scholarship dollars to the youth of central Texas. With that in mind, attending a rodeo is a great cause, and also a great pastime.

“Rodeo is one of the prides that we still have in Texas. Follow the Extraco Event Center Facebook page and find out all the great events that happen here at the Extraco Event Center.”
