New kids’ soccer program launching in Central Texas
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Summer camps and activities are filling up fast, but there’s a new soccer program coming to Central Texas.
It’s called Soccer Shots, and while it teaches kids how to dribble and score a goal, it also teaches kids about character traits, like confidence and respect. The program is open to kids ages two through eight in the Waco, Temple and Killeen area.
Sameera and Kashif Ali are the co-owners and executive directors of Soccer Shots Central Texas. Sameera said their son participated in the program in Austin and loved it, so she wanted other kids to have the opportunity.
“Just coming out of the pandemic, children have been so eager to just get out, and get involved in activities,” Sameera said. “And Soccer Shots provides that opportunity in a fun and safe way.”
Sameera said her son was part of the program when he was two, and even at that age, he was learning the rules of soccer, but he also came home talking about the other things he learned in Soccer Shots.
Sameera said each week, the kids learn a new word. One week the word could be respect, and the kids would learn about respecting their families and friends. Sameera said she thinks it is important for kids to learn about those values at a young age.
“They see their parents, they see their coaches, who were also their first teachers, and that they learn words, character words through these people who mean a lot to them,” Sameera said. “And I think it’s important to teach these core values at such a young age.”
The season begins June 12, so parents have until then to sign up for the program. You can sign up online at www.soccershots.org/centraltexas. If you have questions or want more information, you can also call 254-294-7864 or email email@example.com.
