WACO, Texas (KWTX) - It has been a particularly rainy time in Central Texas, and with the ground so saturated, there’s nowhere for the water to go.

Low lying areas in Waco have flooded after the stream of storms.

The Bryngelson family has been busy cleaning up the aftermath.

“I just see a mess afterward,” Jay Bryngelson said.

Luckily the water did not reach their home this time around, but it did reach their garage with their belongings inside.

“This was about eight inches,” Bryngelson said.

Eight inches of water in their garage, debris carried up onto their property, and sewage backing up into the streets.

Over the years, Bryngelson says they have had to make adjustments to their home and porch area to try and prevent further flooding damage.

They have also asked the city to take action.

“We have talked to them about it and had requested they see what can be done but I don’t know what they are doing really,” Bryngelson said.

“It has not been communicated.”

Council Member Hector Sabido says these issues are a hazard on the roads and to people’s homes, and it’s something they are working to address.

“This past year, city council passed an ordinance where we set a budget item specifically to deal with those water drainage issues,” Sabido said.

“But my goal and my hope is that council will also approve some money to go into that budget so we can address those major issues.”

Council Member Sabido says if you are experiencing issues to reach out and let city officials know so they are aware of the areas that need assistance.
