BEVERLY HILLS, Texas (KWTX) - Some fresh faces are bringing a fresh start to the City of Beverly Hills.

”I think that we’re doing great, we’re moving in the right direction, we all have a common purpose and goal which is to improve Beverly Hills for our citizens and that’s what we’re all working towards,” said newly elected Mayor Lucy Miramontez-Sanchez. “I’m excited for our future.”

Tuesday night was the first city council meeting with the city’s new mayor, two new council members, a new city secretary and a new police chief.

After one week on the job, during the meeting Kory Martin was sworn-in as the city’s new Chief of Police.

The former Chief, Thomas Schmidt, was indicted on a theft charge in March after he was fired earlier that same month.

With 19-years of policing under his belt, Martin has worked for multiple agencies in McLennan County.

Martin left Bellmead PD last year to work for Lacy Lakeview PD.

His former Chief in Bellmead, Lydia Alvarado, came out of retirement to be the interim chief in Beverly Hills to assist the city after Schmidt’s firing.

She came to Martin’s swearing-in to pin the “chief stars” on his collar.

Martin’s wife pinned on his badge as his family watched from the audience.

“The biggest thing I want everyone to know is that we’re looking for good customer service, transparency for the community, and so I welcome anybody to come in and speak with me, that is an opportunity I want us all to take advantage of,” said Martin. “One of the things I want to work on and the staff wants to work on is our rapport with the community, and our rapport with the outside agencies, and we’re very excited about that.”

Martin says it’s time for some change in Beverly Hills.

“Change can be difficult, change can be difficult for any agency, regardless of the history that may have been there or not,” said Martin. “But the important thing is to come in and let them know that I’m here for them, I’m here to support the changes that were made, which was to benefit them and the community, and with that being the ultimate goal it’s going to be a good start.”

Following the meeting and ceremony, the city held a party City Hall to celebrate the new city officials and staff.
