Walker Strong Event to honor slain trooper, raise funds for bulletproof windshields
GROESBECK, Texas (KWTX) - KWTX News 10 will co-sponsor the Walker Strong Event at the Limestone County Fairgrounds June 25-27.
The event will honor the life of Texas Department of Public Safety Officer Chad Walker, shot and killed during a traffic stop near Mexia earlier this year.
The initiative will also raise $150,000 for bulletproof windshields for law enforcement patrol vehicles.
Organizers from M.A.G. Inc, a local group that’s all about outreach, helped organize the event.
“We felt like this is pretty high on the priority list to get done and we jumped in and got it done,” said Ryan Smith with M.A.G. Inc.
Smith said many people assume patrol units used by law enforcement officers are already equipped with bullet-resistant windshields.
“This just needs to happen and we’re going to get that ball rolling,” Smith said.
“If we had stepped up before, we’d still have some friends here today,” said Bryce Worsham with M.A.G Inc. “It’s sad, in that aspect, but looking forward, will be able to save countless lives with this.”
During the three day event, there will be a cook off, team corn-hole competition, events for children, in addition to live and silent auctions.
Tickets are $25 and are available for purchase at the gate. The fairgrounds are located at 922 N Tyus Stree in Groesbeck.
