WACO, Texas (KWTX) - The City of Waco is considering increasing its minimum wage to $15 dollars per hour.
District Four City Representative Kelly Palmer said city council members have discussed an increase in the starting pay for city employees several times.
“Right now, we’re looking at trying to get that minimum city hourly rate to a competitive rate in the marketplace,” Palmer said during a meeting Tuesday.
Despite the discussions, city council has not yet added the proposal to the city’s annual budget.
“It’s going to be a challenge. As you know, it affects the entire payroll as we look at it. So we’re working through those details now,” the city representative said.
Waco City Council members will hold their next budget and audit meeting July 13.
Next year’s budget must be passed by city council by the end of July.
