BELLMEAD, Texas (KWTX) - Police are looking for leads after an elderly man was held at gunpoint in the parking lot of the Walmart off I-35 and forced to drive around while he emptied his pockets.

The robbery happened Wednesday around 2:30 p.m.

Bellmead Police said the 70-year-old man was unloading the items he purchased into his truck when the suspect jumped in the back passenger side door and pulled out a handgun.

The suspect then forced the man to drive to an address in Waco near Sherman and Calumet where the suspect got out of the car and took off walking with cash stolen from the man.

The suspect also stole the victim’s cell phone, police said.

Bellmead Police said a suspect jailed on Friday on unrelated charges is a person of interest.

They hope evidence collected at the scene, including surveillance footage of the suspect, will help positively identify the suspect.
