FRESNO, California (KWTX) - A judge this week sentenced Tina Gonzalez, 27, a former correctional officer with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, to seven months in jail and two years probation after she was found guilty of having sex with a jail inmate.

In early December of 2019, Fresno County Jail staff members received a tip that an inmate was in possession of a cell phone and was also involved in a sexual relationship with Gonzalez.

Jail staff searched the inmate’s cell and found a mobile phone. The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Unit was assigned to investigate Gonzalez and uncovered evidence to support the allegations.

Detectives also discovered Gonzalez had, on one occasion, smuggled alcohol into the jail.

In May of 2020, detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit arrested Gonzalez. At the time, she was charged with sexual activity with an inmate, possession of a controlled substance in a jail, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a cell phone with intent to deliver to an inmate.

Gonzalez began employment as a Fresno County Sheriff’s Correctional Officer in September of 2016. She resigned from her job at the end of December 2019.
