COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - Two people were shot early Wednesday morning in an apparent road rage incident, according to College Station police.

At around 2 a.m., police say two vehicles were driving southbound on Wellborn Road near the intersection with John Kimbrough Boulevard when shots were fired from a white pickup truck occupied by two men. The driver and passenger in the victim’s vehicle were both shot, but police say they suffered suspected non-incapacitating injuries and were taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Police tell us the victims stopped at George Bush Drive and Texas Avenue where they were initially treated on scene.

“The suspect vehicle was last seen in the area of Wellborn Road and George Bush Drive. Again that’s a white pickup truck,” said Officer Tristen Lopez with College Station Police.

Residents who live near that area said they were concerned to hear about this type of crime.

“Very unusual because a lot of people who come here or are in this area are students, and staff who works here. So that was kind of very unusual,” said Enrico De Pano, a College Station resident who works at Texas A&M.

“Fortunately again these types of incidents don’t occur very often in College Station. It’s very rare for a road rage incident to escalate to the point where there is a shooting involved. And fortunately in this case, nobody died from the incident. However you never know what’s going to happen when guns are fired,” said Lopez.

KBTX asked for more stats on aggressive driving and road rage incidents but CSPD, as well as Brazos County 911, don’t specifically track those categories of calls.

Down in Houston, police have dealt with a rash of road rage calls. TxDOT said they are seeing an increase in aggressive driving behavior there, with some of those recent encounters in Harris County being deadly.

Anyone with information about this incident should call College Station police at 979-764-3600. Anonymous calls can be made to Brazos County Crime Stoppers at 979-775-TIPS.
