UPDATE: Arrest warrant issued in connection with fatal Navasota apartment shooting
Police are actively searching for Leon Burrell, Jr. in the BCS and Navasota area.
NAVASOTA, Texas (KBTX) - Navasota Police say Clifton Love passed away around 4:15 a.m. Thursday morning. Authorities have issued a murder warrant for Leon Burrell, Jr., 37, of Navasota in connection with Wednesday night’s fatal shooting at an apartment complex in Navasota. Area law enforcement are still searching for Burrell. He’s considered to be armed and dangerous.
Police say Clifton Love was shot around 8:20 p.m. in the 500 block of Laredo Street near Old Millican Road. The victim was taken by air ambulance to a hospital in Bryan. A woman who was also assaulted in the incident was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, said Navasota Police Chief Shawn Myatt.
Authorities issued an arrest warrant for Burrell on Thursday morning. Law enforcement found Burrell’s car in the Navasota area Thursday morning. Police in Navasota, Bryan, and College Station are actively searching for him. They believe he may have gotten a ride or ran away from the area.
Officials believe Burrell to be armed and dangerous. They’re asking anyone who sees him to call 911 immediately.
The apartment manager tells News 3′s Kendall Hogan that neither the victim nor the suspect resides at the complex.
The murder happened after some sort of argument, according to Navasota Police Chief Myatt.
Police and detectives were still on the scene gathering evidence and information at the time of this post.
