Waco girl with autism went missing during severe thunderstorm because she was forced to look for dog: affidavit
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Dianna Frost, 59, was arrested after police accused her of telling a girl with level 3 autism “not to come back home” until she found a pet that escaped during a severe thunderstorm in Waco, an arrest warrant obtained by KWTX alleges.
The incident allegedly happened in early May during a storm with hail and lightning, police said.
The victim, 14, was reported missing and the Waco Police Department had to utilize multiple resources, including social media posts, drones and K-9 units to find her.
Through interviews with witnesses and relatives, detectives learned that Frost told the girl not to return home until she found a missing dog, the arrest warrant states.
Frost allegedly waited hours to contact police to report the girl missing and initially told police the girl disappeared while chasing after a family dog that ran away during the storm.
Frost, according to police, claimed she followed the girl but lost sight of her during the storm. The woman also “provided inconsistent information about what happened the day the victim could not be located,” the warrant states.
When police interviewed the girl, she told detectives that Frost ordered her to go after a dog.
A family member “corroborated that [Frost] told the girl to chase the family pet, which he believed was a bad idea,” police wrote in the warrant.
Frost is no longer being held at the county jail.
