Expert: Your budget doesn’t have to be perfect, just intentional

(InvestigateTV) — The goal of creating a budget isn’t perfection – it’s consistency. And according to one financial expert, even an imperfect plan can work if you stay intentional.
Kionnie Epps, with the popular YouTube channel The Responsible Homegirl, said saving money starts with a mindset shift.
“Sometimes we think about like these plans that we put together with our finances, as like, you gotta have this perfect plan,” Epps shared. “We gotta stick to within and be so structured. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being intentional. Like the purpose of having these money conversations and say, I’m going to reset my finances for the end of 2025 is just to be more intentional. When you’re more intentional with how much you’re spending, you can save more.”
Epps said being intentional about credit card use can also make a big difference – helping reduce cycles of debt and even improving credit scores.
“I want your money to be on your mind and not from a place of lack, like I have to hold on to everything, but from a place of responsibility and using wisdom with your finances,” Epps said. “Because once it’s gone, it’s gone, and all you can do is work for more.”
Epps emphasized that budgets are meant to evolve. She recommends reviewing your spending plan every payday and making small adjustments as needed.
The more consistently people manage their money, she said, the easier it becomes to make every dollar work harder.
